Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ ﷺ:
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is a central and significant part of Islamic history. He was born in Mecca, present-day Saudi Arabia, in the year 570 AD. He belonged to the Quraysh tribe, a respected and influential tribe in the region.
Early Life:
Muhammad's early life was marked by the loss of his father before his birth and his mother's death when he was just six years old. He was then raised by his grandfather and, after his grandfather's death, by his uncle, Abu Talib.
Prophethood:
At the age of 25, Muhammad married a wealthy and respected widow named Khadijah, and they had a happy and loving marriage. Around the age of 40, during the month of Ramadan, Muhammad began receiving revelations from Allah (God) through the Angel Gabriel. These revelations continued over the next 23 years and were later compiled into the Quran, the holy book of Islam.
Preaching Islam:
Initially, Muhammad's message faced resistance from the Meccan society, especially from the ruling elites who were concerned that his teachings threatened their polytheistic beliefs and economic interests tied to the pilgrimage to the Kaaba. Despite facing persecution and opposition, Muhammad continued to preach the oneness of God, calling people to abandon idolatry and embrace monotheism.
Migration to Medina:
As the hostility towards Muslims increased, a group of Muslims migrated to the city of Yathrib (Medina) in 622 AD. This migration, known as the Hijra, marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and is a crucial event in Islamic history. In Medina, Muhammad established a community based on justice, compassion, and faith. He also signed treaties with various tribes, including Jews and Christians, to ensure peaceful coexistence.
Conquest of Mecca:
After years of conflict, the Muslims eventually gained strength, and in 630 AD, they returned to Mecca victorious. Instead of seeking revenge, Muhammad displayed compassion and forgiveness towards the Meccans, granting a general amnesty.
Last Sermon and Passing:
In the last year of his life, Muhammad performed the Hajj pilgrimage, where he delivered his famous farewell sermon, emphasizing unity, equality, and the importance of upholding human rights. After completing the pilgrimage, he fell seriously ill and passed away on June 8, 632 AD, in Medina, at the age of 63.
Legacy:
Prophet Muhammad's teachings and the Quran laid the foundation for Islam, guiding millions of people in matters of faith, ethics, and daily life. His character, known as the "Seerah," serves as an exemplary model for Muslims to emulate in their conduct, showing traits such as compassion, mercy, patience, and justice.
Muslims revere Prophet Muhammad as the final messenger and seal of the prophets, who brought the message of Islam to humanity and completed the religious guidance that began with earlier prophets like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Esa (peace be upon them). He is deeply respected and loved by Muslims worldwide, and his teachings continue to inspire and guide them to this day.
